Far from a refuge upon this earth
Where some face their death before they see birth
Leaving their right, skipping their turn
Their roads just don’t seem to matter
Caught in a trap without a voice
Tomorrow’s hopes are shattered
Chorus
There’s not way of forgetting in front of the mirror
Too much circumstance ends with shed tears
Fear and sadness both crumble enraged
Becoming is hard in this day and age.
Fragment of sand from the hour glass burst
Onto all the wounded who are dying of thirst
Running in circles for our daily bread
Is like being tied to the stake
Watching the ball as it spins around
How much greed can it take
Shadows of anger are hung on flat walls
Of the used and abused who try to stand tall
They are lost in the reasons of whys and what fores
And scenes of wrong and right
Leading them on through an endless maze
A labyrinth blinding their sight
The clown in your corner has turned inside out
He shuffles inside of his cardboard house
And works in the fields where today’s Shepard reap
The ends that start with your means
Leading you on, feeding the thought
That it’s better to have than to be
His children fight cold wars from behind a desk
They’re trying to please what father knows best
Looking to find something that they lost
In pages of books on the shelf
Stretching to reach and look there within
Hoping to reclaim oneself.
